Important News About Prestons National
Official club statement regarding the provision of on site camping at the Preston National.Rounds 4 & 5 of the British Cycling National Series at Preston Pirates BMX Club will unfortunately have no facilities for camping or motor homes. The club had an initial meeting with British Cycling BMX working group and Preston City Council which was very positive and following a site visit to confirm everything all parties agreed the club were in a position to host rounds 4&5 of the British Cycling National Series. Following the meeting with all parties Preston City Council were informed they could no longer allow the club to use the field adjacent to the track for camping due to funding implications if the field was to be damaged. With this in mind the club rang British Cycling to inform them of the situation and our intentions of seeking an alternative nearby which they supported. The club then set out to look for other camping venues locally which included local businesses, schools, farmers and land owners. The committee worked tirelessly to try and find an alternative with no luck. The club then had to make the hard decision to inform British Cycling that Preston Pirates would not be able to provide camping facilities and therefore couldn’t meet the criteria for a national. Further telephone and email conversations ensued and culminated in the club being informed the national would still be allowed to go ahead but we would have to make sure details of local campsites and hotels were provided to competitors with enough time to seek and book the alternatives. The club would like to apologize for any inconvenience this may cause some of the competitors.
